DHL Supply Chain Adopts Generative AI for Enhanced Customer Solutions

DHL teams with Boston Consulting to streamline logistics proposals and enhance data-driven customer insights.

DHL Supply Chain is integrating generative AI to boost data management and tailor its services. The initiative, developed in collaboration with Boston Consulting Group, aims to streamline proposal assessments and improve customer insights through advanced analytics.

DHL’s Strategic Shift with Generative AI

DHL Supply Chain recently announced its partnership with Boston Consulting Group to deploy two generative AI applications aimed at enhancing data management and analytics. This shift is intended to improve how the company assesses proposals and develops customer-specific logistics solutions. According to Markus Voss, DHL Supply Chain’s Global Chief Development Officer, these AI tools enable more efficient data assessment, allowing DHL’s engineers to design logistics concepts with increased productivity.

Focused AI Applications for Tailored Solutions

The two generative AI applications, known as “first Gen AI” and “second Gen AI,” are being piloted and tailored for select user groups within DHL Supply Chain. Following a “product funnel approach” outlined by CIO Mike Kreider, the phased rollout ensures each application is tested and refined before broader implementation.

One AI application supports DHL’s business development team by analyzing customer requirements, making it easier to create proposals that better align with client needs. Meanwhile, the second application enhances data sorting capabilities, enabling the solutions design team to propose more accurate and effective logistics strategies.

Expanding Automation for Operational Efficiency

In addition to AI, DHL Supply Chain is leveraging automation to improve warehouse management and support employee retention, areas where technology-driven solutions are already reshaping its operations. With generative AI positioned to play a larger role, DHL aims to continue optimizing core processes and delivering increased value to customers. The full deployment of these AI solutions is anticipated soon, marking another milestone in DHL’s ongoing digital transformation journey.
