Streamlining Returns: UPS’ Happy Returns and Shein Partner with Forever 21

A forever 21 label on a man's coat.

In a strategic move to enhance customer satisfaction, UPS’ Happy Returns has introduced a cross-brand returns capability, now available at Forever 21 stores, simplifying the process for Shein customers.

Cross-Brand Returns Innovation

Happy Returns, a UPS subsidiary, has unveiled a new service that allows enterprise retailers to accept online returns from various brands in their physical stores. This initiative has been kickstarted with Shein, an e-commerce powerhouse, enabling customers to return Shein purchases at over 300 Forever 21 locations across the continental United States without the need for a box.

Enhancing the Customer Experience

The collaboration between Shein and Forever 21, facilitated by Happy Returns, is designed to optimize the post-purchase experience. Shein’s U.S. President, George Chiao, emphasizes the company’s commitment to a hassle-free returns process. The service leverages QR codes generated via Shein’s return portal, which are then processed by Forever 21’s in-store software, ensuring the correct items are returned. This system not only streamlines returns but also drives foot traffic to Forever 21 stores, potentially boosting sales through same-day discounts offered to Shein customers completing returns.

Strategic Partnerships and Reverse Logistics

The partnership is a result of Shein and Sparc Group’s (Forever 21’s operator) previous agreement to distribute each other’s products. Happy Returns provides the necessary software and reverse logistics solutions to manage the aggregated returns efficiently, sending them back to Shein’s warehouses. This innovative approach is expected to be adopted by other businesses with multiple brands, as it offers a practical solution to the complexities of cross-brand returns.

The partnership between UPS’ Happy Returns, Shein, and Forever 21 showcases a forward-thinking approach to enhancing customer experience and simplifying return processes. This innovative collaboration sets a precedent for future cross-brand return solutions in the retail industry.
