The Biden-Harris administration has unveiled its budget proposal for the 2025 fiscal year, signaling a robust investment strategy for the United States’ supply chain infrastructure. The proposal outlines a $109 billion allocation for the Department of Transportation, targeting the modernization of critical infrastructure.

Revitalizing Transportation Networks

A significant portion of the budget is dedicated to rejuvenating the country’s transportation framework, particularly aging bridges and highways. States are set to receive $5.5 billion for the rehabilitation and construction of highway bridges, including those outside the federal highway system.

Bridge Repair and Safety Enhancement

The budget includes $675 million to repair deteriorating bridges, supplemented by $1.8 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. This investment aims to maintain bridge safety and functionality, support local economies, and fortify supply chains.

Upgrading Shipping Infrastructure

To enhance the shipping sector, the administration proposes nearly $860 million, with an additional $1.5 billion from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law. These funds are intended to create more efficient and resilient port operations, increase port capacity, and advance climate sustainability by reducing shipping emissions.

U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg emphasized the budget’s role in continuing the progress of travel safety improvements, supply chain strengthening, and infrastructure modernization. The budget is poised to expedite the ongoing enhancements to roads, public transit, and the movement of goods, promising long-term benefits for the American populace.
