GXO Logistics collaborates with Dexterity to test AI-powered robotics, aiming to optimize productivity and workforce efficiency in warehouse management for a prominent beauty brand.

Pilot Program Launch

GXO Logistics has initiated a pilot program with robotics company Dexterity to integrate AI-driven robotics into warehouse processes. This innovative approach is designed to automate tasks such as de-palletizing, labeling, and re-palletizing packages. The advanced robotics system, equipped with AI and machine learning capabilities, adapts and improves without extensive pre-programming, enhancing efficiency with each task performed.

Automation as a Catalyst for Efficiency

In an industry facing challenges like declining volume growth and inflationary pressures, automation emerges as a key solution. Neil Shelton, Chief Strategy Officer, emphasizes the importance of automation in maintaining operational efficiency. The AI packaging pilot exemplifies how AI can significantly boost the return on investment and performance of automation technologies, not just in packaging but across various warehouse functions.

Strategic Partnerships and Trials

Although the specific beauty brand involved in the Dexterity robotics trial remains undisclosed, GXO’s portfolio includes partnerships with companies such as Avon and Glossier. This trial is part of GXO’s broader strategy to explore AI applications that can enhance productivity and workforce management across its client base.

Expanding AI Applications

GXO’s exploration of AI extends to various projects, including a proof-of-concept with Agility Robotics’ humanoid robot “Digit” at Spanx’s Georgia facility and a collaboration with Eddie Bauer to create a fully automated warehouse featuring autobagger packing machines and a totes-to-person picking system utilizing GreyOrange technology. Additionally, GXO tested a 3D sortation system that efficiently organized items into over 450 destination bins.

Future of AI in Warehousing

Looking ahead, GXO anticipates integrating multiple technologies to deliver comprehensive, end-to-end solutions within its sites. The focus is not solely on individual technologies but on their synergistic potential to transform warehouse operations and management.

GXO’s commitment to piloting AI-enhanced solutions reflects the company’s forward-thinking approach to addressing the evolving demands of warehouse logistics. By harnessing the power of AI and robotics, GXO is poised to redefine efficiency and productivity in the supply chain sector.
