Michaels has confirmed that it will be partnering with DoorDash and Uber Eats to provide same-day delivery services from more than 1,200 of its stores nationwide. This move is part of the retailer’s strategy to enhance its omnichannel experience for customers. The range of products available for delivery includes crafting supplies and home décor, all offered at the same retail prices as in-store. Michaels also provides same-day delivery through Instacart.

Heather Bennett, Michaels’ Executive Vice President of Marketing and E-commerce, emphasized the importance of convenience, choice, and flexibility in providing a top-tier omnichannel experience. She stated that delivering on these aspects is more crucial than ever for their customers.

The Growing Trend of Same-Day Delivery Partnerships

While Michaels continues to offer standard shipping methods, the company is increasingly turning to fast delivery platforms to reach new audiences and add value for its regular customers. This move mirrors a broader trend in the retail sector, with companies such as Academy Sports and Outdoors, The Home Depot, Lowe’s, Hibbett, Sur La Table, and Marcone expanding their offerings through on-demand delivery providers since 2023.

This trend highlights the evolving role of on-demand delivery providers, which have grown beyond their initial function as couriers for restaurant orders. DoorDash now features over 150,000 non-restaurant stores on its global marketplace and platform services. The partnership with Michaels represents DoorDash’s first venture into the arts and crafts retail category.

Uber Eats is also expanding its services beyond restaurant delivery. Uber CEO Dara Khosrowshahi recently stated on an earnings call that the company is “just getting started” in the retail and grocery sectors, noting the promising long-term growth potential of delivery services in these areas.

The partnerships between Michaels, DoorDash, and Uber Eats signify a significant shift in the retail landscape towards on-demand delivery. By embracing these platforms, Michaels is positioning itself to better serve its customers by providing convenient, flexible, and choice-driven delivery options. This move aligns with a broader trend in the retail sector, highlighting the importance of fast delivery services in meeting customer expectations and driving growth in the industry.
