Aiming for Enhanced Sourcing Practices

Walgreens Boots Alliance Global Sourcing is set to leverage TradeBeyond’s platform to improve its sourcing practices, according to a press release dated June 26. The technology solution will enable WBA to manage processes within its global sourcing function, as well as overall sourcing and order management operations.

Driving Digital Efficiencies and Transparency

The replacement of WBA’s legacy systems with TradeBeyond’s platform is expected to boost digital efficiencies and data transparency. The roll-out of the new system is slated to commence in fall 2024. Adam Swallow, WBA’s VP of global sourcing and quality, stated that TradeBeyond would support the company in enhancing supply chain transparency, speeding up market entry, unifying operational processes, and managing collaboration both internally and with supplier partners.

Walgreens’ Supply Chain Efficiency Efforts

The drugstore chain has been actively working to improve efficiencies across its supply chain. This includes the use of artificial intelligence for more accurate forecast demands and centralized services for improved inventory management, as mentioned by interim CEO Ginger Graham during a Q4 2023 earnings call.

Walgreens has also been focusing on optimizing its fulfillment operations, with plans announced in 2021 to open micro-fulfillment centers. However, in 2023, the company paused its micro-fulfillment expansion plan to thoroughly review the strategy’s benefits and focus on improving the rollout.

In conclusion, Walgreens Boots Alliance Global Sourcing is making strides to enhance its sourcing practices through the partnership with TradeBeyond. The adoption of TradeBeyond’s platform is expected to drive digital efficiencies, improve transparency, and streamline operational processes within the company’s supply chain. With a focus on boosting efficiency and collaboration, Walgreens continues to innovate and optimize its sourcing operations for the future.
